Veterans groups invited the public to help honor Mr. Will Melvin Shegog who was homeless and had no known family when he died Feb. 15 at age 59 in Phoenix, Arizona. Shegog was born in Illinois in 1960 and moved to the Phoenix area after serving in the U.S. Air Force in the late 1970s.
In attendance to Shegog’s memorial service was his niece, Carol Shegog-Parker, and her husband, Malcom Parker. Both knew Shegog, but learned of his passing from social media and other news outlets.
The Patriot Guard Riders escorted a massive funeral procession from A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary to the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix on February 27, 2019. Shegog received full military honors as he was laid to rest.
